John Reed .....Smaller Lakes Have Their Rewards! - 06/23/2005

"Fished the small 4-acre lake in our subdivision with my neighbor (Bob Schiffmann) Thursday night for a couple of hours. Since the main forage in the lake for bass is bream, we catch small bream on light tackle and use them as bait with a balloon rig.  While Bob's rig was out he happened to catch "the perfect size bream" for a big bass which he gave to me to hook up on my rig.  Shortly after that, Bob's balloon went under and he reeled in a 7.5 largemouth which I netted at the bank for him.  About 5 minutes later...my balloon went under and after waiting a moment to let her get it turned in her mouth, I stuck her. Bob shouts, "that's a 10-pounder John".  She couldn't get all the way up on her tail to walk so I knew it was big...all I saw was mouth and gills.  I got her to the bank and Bob netted her...we weighed her on the Rapala scales and she was 9.8 lbs. It's been 5 and a half years since I caught my 1st "hawg"...a 6.2 lb'er...and had her mounted.  Needless to say, this one is going on the wall next to her."
